City Portraits
The series explores the dynamic interplay between memory and reality through encaustic painting. Each 12×12-inch portrait captures landmarks, businesses, and everyday scenes from cities and small towns. Many of the paintings represent places in Iowa City. The encaustic medium, with its rich texture and layering, enhances this transformation, creating a new version of the story that is less about precise representation and more about the essence and emotional resonance of the subject.
