Bulgarian Fables

“Folklore of the Elements” is a new series of 18 x 24 inch encaustic paintings inspired by old Bulgarian folktales—stories once used to explain the mysteries of the natural world and humanity’s place within it. Through the language of wax, these works reimagine tales of the sun, moon, sky, seasons, rain, floods, divine reward, and punishment. The series explores my interpretation of oral traditions about forces both intimate and immense. Soon every painting will be paired with a short story. Stay tuned.
